Battle for the Fort “Overwhelmed” by Entries
UK’s Biggest Battle of the Bands Rescheduled due to Popular Demand
17th July 2006 The ‘Battle for the Fort’, the UK’s biggest ever battle of the bands, has been moved to September due to an overwhelming flood of entries from aspiring rock stars across the country.
More than 200 budding pop acts have registered for the competition, forcing the organisers to move the Grand Final from its original July date to Saturday, 9 September – buying more time for the judging panel to ensure that the very cream of the crop perform on the big night.
“We want to accommodate as many up-and-coming bands as we possibly can to make the ‘Battle for the Fort’ the premier showcase of its kind,” said Nick Pitt, Centre Manager at The Fort Shopping Park. “Interest has been phenomenal and the task of sifting through some of the country’s brightest new talent is not as easy as we first anticipated. The new September date is going to be sensational.”
The Grand Final will be staged at The Fort Shopping Park in Birmingham – a major retail venue boasting numerous popular high street stores – and will be hosted by rock station Kerrang 105.2. The show will be headlined by rising chart stars ‘The Towers of London’, who have recently released their debut album, ‘Blood, Sweat & Towers’.
The five final bands will thrash it out to win the prize of a lifetime – a record deal, including free recording time in a state-of-the-art studio, CD printing and distribution, and possibly fame and fortune across the UK. The final decision will be a split between audience and judges’ decision – so there’s everything to play for by whipping the crowds into a frenzy!!
Launched in May 2006 on http://www.overplay.com – the website for the stars of tomorrow – ‘The Battle of The Fort’ is the UK’s biggest ever Battle of the Bands and is a once in a lifetime chance to land a record deal. The competition is also contributing to charity with all proceeds from the event going to Stechford School in Birmingham to fund an environmental activities week.
